Timorpark: Een betoverend Engels-stijl stadspark, geopend in 1932 na een werkverschaffingsproject. Ontdek de Duitse hospitaalbunker uit WOII en geniet van kunstwerken van Mulder en Bier. Perfect voor wandelingen en picknicks. Openingstijden: altijd geopend. Toegang: gratis.

2. Lange jaap

Vuurtoren Lange Jaap: Hoogste gietijzeren vuurtoren van Europa, sinds 1878. Helaas niet toegankelijk voor publiek wegens instabiliteit, maar bewonderen van buiten mogelijk tijdens wandeling of fietstocht. Openingstijden: niet opengesteld voor publiek. Toegang: – (gratis).

Visit the living room of Den Helder

Why would I visit a school? School 7 used to be a school but nowadays it’s one of the libraries in Den Helder and is also called the living room of the city. Find a book, take a seat, and enjoy the beautiful view. Next to reading you can plan your meetings in one of their meeting rooms, drink a coffee in the café, or take a language course. And if you are looking for a location to get married, School 7 is your place to be. Enough reasons for the library to win the Public Library of the Year Award in 2018.

2. Theatre de Kampanje 

Steal the show in the theatre of Den Helder

The enormous building of the theatre used to be a shipyard. If you walk inside the theatre, you can still see the historical elements, like glass, brick, wood, and steel. For the architecture of this old, historical building the theatre won the Arie Keppler Architecture Award in 2016. During the theatre season, you can enjoy different programs, like cabaret, music, and theatre. Both the building and program are worth visiting de Kampanje.

3. The National Lifeboat museum

The National Lifeboat Museum gives you a thrilling all-round experience.

Did you ever wonder what it’s like to save a crew from the sea? The young visitors to the museum can find out about this. Feel the force of a force 10 gale in the wind turbine, experience rough seas on the lifeboat simulator, and try the heroes’ game to see if you are ready to join the lifeboat crew. The newest addition to the museum is the VR experience of the lifeboat NH1816.

5. Hortus Overzee

Discover the secret gardens of the city

Do you feel like you need a break from the uplifting events at Sail, this is a perfect place to search for peace and quietness. The botanical garden is within 10 walking minutes from the Sail area. It’s divided into several areas: the Japanese garden, and different greenhouses. In the Japanese garden, you can look at beautiful flowers and take nice pictures. In the different greenhouses, you can find butterflies, fish, and birds next to exotic plants.

After admiring nature, you can enjoy delicious homemade snacks and strawberry cake, while sipping tea. The perfect place to calm down.

The sups are also available for a group, which can make the adventure even more challenging. From the starting point you have the possibility to choose your preferred way to discover Den Helder from a different perspective. Which way do you choose?
